Muddy Waters - Muddy, Brass & The Blues LP

By 1967, Muddy Waters had already conquered the world with his raw, Delta-bred electric slide. But for Muddy, Brass & The Blues, the wizards at Chess Records decided to pivot, pushing the "Hoochie Coochie Man" out of his comfort zone and into a bold, new sonic territory. While his earlier records saw him looking back at his deep Southern roots, this session was all about the "Now." The label swapped Muddy's traditional stripped-down ensemble for a sophisticated, heavy-hitting wall of sound featuring blaring horns and a prominent organ. Perhaps most strikingly, Muddy is stripped of his guitar for these sessions, a move that forces his legendary voice to the forefront. The result? A definitive proof of Waters' incredible prowess as a top-tier R&B singer, delivering a soulful, grit-infused performance that rivals the best of the era. For the first time in more than 30 years, this essential piece of the Muddy Waters discography receives its first official American LP reissue. For fans who want to hear the King of Chicago Blues reinvent himself with a brassy, soulful swagger, this is a must-have addition to your shelf.
