Ry Cooder - Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down

Gerenomeerd muzikant en songwriter Ry Cooder brengt op 2 september een nieuw album uit getiteld “Pull
Up Some Dust And Sit Down”, via Nonesuch Records.
Cooder staat bekend om zijn sterk verhalende albums; op dit nieuwe album neemt Cooder zwaar politieke
onderwerpen onder handen. Zo trekt hij een parallel tussen de depressie van de jaren twintig en de huidige
financiële crisis in de song “No Banker Left Behind”, heeft het over immigratie problemen in “El Corrido
de Jesse James”, en de problematiek van het Amerikaanse leger die jongeren uit de sloppenwijken van LA
recruteren op “Baby Joined The Army”. Voor Cooder staan de verhalen dan ook voorop bij het schrijven van
de songs “John Lee Hooker running for president, infomercial about his campaign—you do it in the style as
much as you can. I spent a lot of years playing along with his records and knowing him, even, personally. So
I thought I’d try that, you know, and see if you can evoke that feeling. But that’s what musicians do, looking
for inspiration through the music, through the instruments.”
